The trust was initiated in the name of Late. Shri Justice N.D. Krishna Rao, Bar-at –Law, I.C.S. he was the first among the distinguished citizens of Dakshina Kannada district, to be appointed as a Chief Justice of a High Court in India at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh. Hailing from Nandalike village in Karkala Taluk, of Dakshina Kannada District, he took his B.Sc (Hons) degree in chemistry with first rank in the University of Madras in 1925.
He topped the list of candidates for ICS, who took the examination in 1928 in England and completed the training in 1929. After six years of executive service as Sub-Collector in Madras state, he opted for the judiciary and became a Barrister of Law at Lincon’s inn, London in 1936. He served as Judge in Madras state and Andhra state in 10 districts of these states between 1936 to 1955. He was appointed as a Judge in the Andhra state High Court at Guntur in 1955 and served at Guntur as well as at Hyderabad from November 1956. He retired as Chief Justice, of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Hyderabad, in July 1966. Thereafter he was the one man pay commission of Andhra Pradesh till March 1968. After his retirement, shifted to Bangalore and passed away on 22nd February, 1971.
A Public & Charitable Trust was established and registered to commemorate his memory on 1st December, 1978 by his close associates and family friends. The trust was granted a Civic Amenity site at HAL 2nd stage, Indiranagar on a lease of 30 years with effect from 31st August, 1979 by the B.D.A., Bangalore.
The Trust has established a memorial building / Kalyana Mandira on the site which would provide a recurring source of income, in order to fulfill the charitable activities of the Trust. The Kalyana Mandira was inaugurated on 10th November, 1985 by Justice Sri. K. Jagannath Shetty, former judge, Supreme Court of India, and was presided over by Sri. Veerandra Hegde, Dharmadhikari, Kshetra Dharmasthala.
Since 1985 the Trust is running the Kalyana Mandira by renting out the same to the people of Bangalore to conduct the wedding and other spiritual functions, to undertake the charity activities by helping the needy people, for which it has been established.
